thrust Manipulation

Cervical, Thoracic, Rib, Lumbar and Pelvic Girdle Regions

Course Description:  This 16 hour course will focus on HVLA thrust manipulation techniques for the cervical, thoracic, rib, lumbar and pelvic regions. Joint stress testing, safety precautions and contraindications will be reviewed.  Proper patient set up, joint localization and therapist body mechanics will be emphasized.  Manual therapy experience localizing joint and soft tissue barriers is required.

Course Objectives:

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe indications, precautions and contraindications to HVLAT techniques.
  • Demonstrate pre-manipulative screening tests for cervical instabilities and vertebro-basilar insufficiences.
  • Develop and enhance clinical reasoning behind determining when to utilize HVLAT techniques.
  • Demonstrate understanding and use of locking techniques above and below the dysfunction being treated.
  • Learn how to accurately identify restrictions to be manipulated utilizing a HVLAT technique through a biomechanical examination.
  • Demonstrate safe and effective use of HVLAT techniques in the cervical, thoracic, lumbar spine, costal cage and pelvic girdle.

What people are saying...

"...the material (was presented) in a clear, succinct fashion that allows confidence to perform right away."

"My first manipulation course and I feel that I learned a great deal.  Way more comfortable with technique and safety with a good foundation to improve my speed and amplitude."

Manual therapy seminars

The following courses...

provide the student with the tools to safely and effectively perform a bio-mechanical examination of the specific area of dysfunction. Students will be instructed in relevant functional anatomy and biomechanics and will gain skills in identifying signs and symptoms that require referral to other medical professionals. Treatment will include Muscle Energy Technique, neuromuscular re-education and prescriptive home exercises. High Velocity Low Amplitude Thrust Manipulation Techniques will be demonstrated but will not be practiced. These courses involves both lab and lecture.
